In 1912, Paris found itself with a growing overpopulation of abandoned babies. One of the “foundling” hospitals of that city devised a way to find not only homes for those children, but also a way to raise money. They held a “Loterie de Bébés” or baby raffle. (No I did not misspell rattle!) Maybe there were some positive results although there is very little written about this fund raiser. In the days of rampant cruel child labor and with the only screening based on the highest bid, the whole idea sounds dangerous and without much thought to the value of the children’s lives.
So how much is your life worth or rather what gives it any worth at all? I would say when God created us with an eternal soul he made humans priceless. Our soul, actually we all will exist forever. No matter what happens to the earth on which we live or the solar systems around us, you, me, all of us will be around forever. God created us that way because he loves us.
But he did not desert us after our creation to deal with our greatest need-sin. What happens to us once we leave this earth is fully dependent on what happens with the sin in our lives. God provided the remedy. ” For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:16. Imagine; someone died to save you! What a wonderful gift of love.
You can read how God loved you even before you were born in Psalm 139:13-16.
This was just a taste of what you can learn from the Bible.
Hope you come back for another taste. I will wait you.
