Sometimes I Miss The Important Things

I was thinking today that I have it pretty good. Not because my life is anything so special – or is it?

I woke up – only two choices there, either in heaven or still here with something God wanted me to do for him.

I am sober another day. Sometimes I forget that after the time with which I have been blessed.

I woke up next to my wife. Oh how thankful I am after the drinking years of trying to mess up that relationship.

I was able to get out of bed, make breakfast and pack a lunch. Not everyone has a bed, a house to hold that bed or enough food for breakfast must less a lunch. And some cannot get out of bed.

I drove safely to work and went to my office. So. the car started – yay! I have a job. The elevator made it safely to the third floor. (If that thing ever breaks, it goes so slowly I am sure there would still be a safe, gentle landing.)

The workers I supervise all, except one, had their time cards in for me to approve. Overall this is a hardworking, conscientious and willing -to- learn group of people. Granted, my own kids are older than most of them, so I am learning the ways of a different generation. But remember, I am looking at the good things and learning is good.

I can call my wife to see how she is doing by simply pressing one button on my phone. Well not a button but a place on the screen. A lot easier than the rotary dialing of years ago.

I mailed a birthday gift to one of my 12 grandchildren. All my grandchildren and children for that matter are doing well. It is a blessing to see their lives change and watch as God grows their faith.

I was looking through the pictures on my camera and for the first time notice the third goose feeding in the picture above. When I took this picture on our vacation I saw only the two geese. How often God reveals good things in my life that were always there but unseen.

I came home after work and slowed cooked something on the grill for a meal to share with others. We will spend time around good food (I hope) and God’s word. That is a blessing that I too often take for granted.

I will go to bed tonight, sober and on newly washed sheets and cleaned bedroom because my wife spent the day cleaning.

I will read the Bible with my wife, pray for blessings on my children, grandchildren, my wife and others who so need God’s protection. And I know he will hear me.

When I look for only the BIG happenings in my life, I miss the blessings that are there all the time. Some may call them common. Some may think they are unimportant. But because of the love shown to me by my Savior by his sacrifice on the cross – they are mine. Thank you Jesus for being my Savior. It is because of your grace I exist and for that I will remain always thankful.

Sing and make music from your heart to the Lord, always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.  Ephesians 5:19-20

If you want to continue with me on my journey through God’s world, come on back. I will wait you.

(I would encourage you to visit to learn more about being thankful. You will not regret it.)
